We told you about it exactly a month ago: Google acknowledged that an unspecified issue had caused the impressions counted in Search Console to be inflated since May 2025 (yes, a year ago). At the time, Google simply stated that they were working on the problem and that once it was fixed, "you may see a decrease in impressions in the Search Console performance report." Well, that moment has arrived. In a new post, Google announced that it has now corrected the incorrect counting of website impressions for the period between May 13, 2025, and April 27, 2026. This means that, from that date onward, the consistency of the historical data series is broken, making it no longer comparable. Data from the entire year between May 13, 2025, and April 27, 2026, will remain as they are (incorrect), while data after that date will be correct, as confirmed by John Mueller of Google. “A logging error prevented Search Console from accurately reporting impressions from May 13, 2025, to April 27, 2026. This issue has now been resolved. Therefore, you may see a decrease in impressions in the Search Console performance report. Only impressions and related metrics (CTR and average position) were affected; clicks were not affected by the error, and this issue only affected data logging,” the statement reads. So, if you work with Search Console, be prepared to see a drop (the magnitude of which is unknown) in your data once the issue is resolved. Keep this in mind so you can explain this change in trend to your superiors (if you manage your company's SEO) or to your clients (if you work at an SEO agency).
