Hootsuite, the leading platform in social media management, and We Are Social, have presented the results of their Digital Report 2022 for the month of October, where the latest data on the main digital trends and the use made by Internet users are collected globally.
According to the report, Internet users have increased by 3.5% since October 2021, reaching 5.07 billion as they enter the last quarter of the year. More than 63% of the world is population uses the Internet, with 171 million new users in the last 12 months. In addition, they spend a daily total of 6 hours and 37 minutes surfing the Internet, 20 minutes less than last year.
On the other hand, the report analyzes the main reasons why users use the Internet: 58.4% to get information, 54.2% to be in contact with their family and friends, 50.8% to keep up to date with news and events, and 49.8% to watch videos, series and movies.
Regarding social network users, they have reached a total of 4,740 million at the beginning of October, 190 million more than last year. That global total has increased by 4.2% in the last 12 months, which is equivalent to 59.3% of the world is population being users of these platforms. In addition, they spend 2 hours and 28 minutes a day on them, 1 minute more than last year. Regarding the use of social networks, 47% of users affirm that they use them to be in contact with their family and friends, 35.4% to fill their free time, 34.6% to read new stories and the 30% for searching content such as articles or videos.

Even with the current average of 397 minutes per day, the average Internet user still spends more than 40% of his life online
Facebook remains the most used social network globally with nearly 3 billion active users. It is followed by YouTube and WhatsApp, with 2,515 and 2,000 million active users, respectively.
The ranking of the favorite social networks of users between 16 and 64 years old is headed by WhatsApp, followed by Facebook, Instagram and WeChat
Women between 18 and 24 years old are the ones who use Instagram the most, while men between 25 and 34 years old are the ones who use Facebook the most

39.6% of users who consume audio online do so to listen to music on streaming services, while 21.3% do so to listen to podcasts
58.2% of Internet users between the ages of 16 and 64 have bought a product or service online, compared to 14.3% who have done so in an online second-hand store
