WhatsApp is preparing to launch WhatsApp Plus, a new paid subscription that will allow its users to access expanded features for the messaging app.
What's new in WhatsApp Plus?
As exclusively reported by WA BetaInfo, the app, owned by Meta, is about to launch WhatsApp Plus internationally, priced at €2.49 per month for Europe, with automatic renewal (unless you cancel your plan up to 24 hours before the payment due date). For now, this feature, which is beginning its rollout, is only available to Android users.
These are the features it will include:
Exclusive Stickers
Users who pay for WhatsApp Plus will have access to new premium stickers, which feature new effects, such as animations that temporarily overlay the chat screen. The recipient of the sticker will see this eye-catching effect, even if they are not a paid subscriber. You can see how it will look in this image leaked by WA BetaInfo.
New Themes for Your App
The subscription includes the ability to change the app's appearance, using up to 18 new colors with eye-catching names like Vibrant Blue, Royal Purple, Coral Orange, Sunset Orange, and Golden Yellow. The chosen color will be applied to all areas of the app where the classic WhatsApp green currently appears.
A New Icon for WhatsApp
Personally, I think this is the most superfluous of all these new premium features. Those who pay for WhatsApp Plus will be able to change the app's classic icon and replace it with one of the 14 options offered, such as one with a glossy finish, a luminous electric blue effect, or a "soft, velvety purple texture."
Exclusive Ringtones
It's not all about visual tweaks. WhatsApp Plus will also include exclusive ringtones. Again, the app opts for striking names, such as "Flutter," "Ripple," and "Carnival."
Pinned Chats
The most useful new feature, at least on the surface, and the only one without an aesthetic component. WhatsApp Plus users can now pin up to 20 chats to the top of their screen for quick and easy access. Until now, users of the free plan were limited to a maximum of 3 pinned chats.
If you have many different conversations frequently, this option will be of great interest to you.
In a brief statement leaked to TechCrunch, Meta explained that "We started with a small test to gather feedback and ensure we're creating something people will truly value."
So, would you pay €2.49 a month for access to these features?
