At its Cloud Next event, Google announced the arrival of AI Overviews to Gmail. This feature, based on Gemini 3 technology, will allow Google's email platform to generate AI-powered summaries from your emails.
Currently, this feature is only available in English in the United States and can be used on personal accounts with the Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra plans, as well as on professional or educational accounts with a Google Workspace plan.
How AI Overviews Work in Gmail
Similar to AI Overviews in Search, Gmail's AI Overviews allow users to ask questions in the search bar using natural language or keywords. The AI understands the message and acts accordingly, searching the account's emails to find the requested information and generate a summary.
For example, you can write, “When is the meeting with the sales team at Company X?”, “Get outstanding invoices from emails with suppliers,” or “Get a summary of my upcoming trip to Córdoba.”
With this update, Google aims to simplify the Gmail experience, allowing users to find relevant information, manage projects, invoices, travel details, or their calendars more easily, without having to sift through emails.
In addition, the tech company also announced that Drive's AI Overviews, which were previously in beta, will soon be activated for eligible Workspace and Google AI plan users.
Real-time voice interaction with AI assistants is one of the areas where Google is focusing its efforts to offer a smoother user experience. Their latest advancement in this area is the recently announced Gemini 3.8 Live and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking models. These voice assistants, like their predecessors, allow for fluid, natural, and real-time voice conversations, but they stand out for their significant advancements in reasoning capabi...
