Real-time voice interaction with AI assistants is one of the areas where Google is focusing its efforts to offer a smoother user experience. Their latest advancement in this area is the recently announced Gemini 3.8 Live and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking models. These voice assistants, like their predecessors, allow for fluid, natural, and real-time voice conversations, but they stand out for their significant advancements in reasoning capabilities and background task execution, as well as for offering greater conversational fluency. Thus, engaging in voice conversations with Gemini Live through the Gemini app, Google Workspace, or Search becomes a more agile, intuitive, and collaborative process, in which AI can execute and resolve more complex tasks more efficiently. Gemini 3.8 Gemini 3.8 Live is optimized for seamless, everyday interaction, designed to be fast, cost-effective, and efficient. The model boasts a robust visual foundation that allows it to process visual input in near real-time, adding contextual information to the system and enabling it to deliver more relevant responses and results. It offers fluid conversation, handling mid-sentence interruptions, and can detect up to 97 languages, switching between supported languages within the same conversation if needed. Furthermore, it's multitasking, running tools and API calls in the background while the conversation is ongoing to fulfill tasks and requests. Who can use Gemini 3.8 Live? Google has already begun rolling out Gemini 3.8 Live in the Gemini API and Google AI Studio for developers, in the private preview of Gemini Enterprise for businesses, and in Search Live for the general public. Likewise, the tech company has announced that version 3.8 Live will also soon be available to the client experience in Gemini Enterprise, although no specific date has been given. Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking is designed for use in highly complex tasks that require greater intelligence and deeper, multi-step reasoning. This model is capable of maintaining fluid and uninterrupted conversations while executing complex workflows. It also processes and understands visual information in just a few seconds. While working, it provides “early verbal cues such as ‘Let me check this…’ to naturally confirm instructions and real-time narration that guides users through multi-step background tasks as they progress,” explains Google. Who can use Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking is now available to developers in the Gemini API and in Google AI Studio. While businesses can access the model through a private preview in Gemini Enterprise (it will soon also be activated in Gemini Enterprise for enterprise Customer Experience and Google Workspace customers). In addition, it is already available to the general public in Gemini Live, to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in Workspace in Docs, and to all Google AI subscribers in Gmail and Keep. SynthID Watermark All audio generated by these Gemini Live models includes SynthID, a digital watermark imperceptible to the human ear, embedded directly into the audio output. This allows you to verify and identify when a voice file has been generated by Google AI. SynthID is not exclusive to Gemini 3.8 Live and Gemini 3.8 Live Extended Thinking; it is also integrated into other Google AI products such as Nano Banana and VEO3.
